Our Beliefs
Apostles Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit
and born of the virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to hell.
The third day he rose again from the dead.
He ascended to heaven
and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty.
From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic* church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.
*that is, the true Christian church of all times and all places
Did You Know?
The Apostle’s Creed was not put together by the apostles, but by those who followed in their footsteps within the first few generations of the church. In essence, it is a brief summary of their teachings that sets out what the first Christians wholeheartedly believed and agreed to be true concerning the faith. Since its inception, believers of every kind, from every corner of the world, and throughout time have adhered to it as the simplest ecumenical symbol of the faith.
Our Statement of Purpose
Marathon Baptist Church, February 6, 1898
It is for His glory that we exist.
To go and make disciples of all nations; baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; teaching them to observe all that the Lord taught. We seek to live our lives in such a way that others might come to know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. We seek to encourage one another, all the more, as the Lord’s return comes near.
“The Word of God, The Bible, is our Supreme authority in doctrine and practice.”
